Through Perspex Windows

The poetry of David Macleod

A number of years ago, I created a poetry book and I have recreated it here on this Website.
Most of the poems have appeared in many other poetry books. All the drawings are also my own work and everything on this site is copyrighted.

I live in Scotland and I have been writing poems from an early age. Most of the poems on this site, were written in 1995. Not all the poems from this book are on the site, but I may add them at a later date.

I hope you enjoy browsing through this site and if you have any questions, or if you wish to contact me, then I would be pleased to hear from you.

Holiday
This is one of the many poems to be found on this site, accompanied with one of my drawings.

Holiday

School-bells ring for holidays to bring,
Children scrambling for the gates,
Playgrounds sing, their jotters they fling,
Timetables that have no dates.

Screaming, running, down the street,
I sense a feeling of concern,
Months of misery that I'll meet,
What mischief will they learn?

Dreaming through glass on a carriage train,
A sandy-bucket, seaside day,
Some will live somewhere in Spain,
But the children I know, will stay.

Hyperactive their mothers don't care,
Graffiti with pens they can write,
There's a lot they can draw within a stair,
Scribbling ink until late at night.

Pelting buses that hurry past,
Dividing amounts of stone,
Smashing glass, cars speeding fast,
Subtracting bricks being thrown.

Playing with matches, starting fires,
The Library's no place to read,
Motorists stand guard, by their tyres,
A damn good thrashing, is what they need.

School-bells ring, the holidays end,
It is almost the end of summer,
A season that I will not pretend,
Was really just a bummer.
